Welsh folk singer Ali Lacey – better known by his alias Novo Amor – has returned with his first releases of 2020, Decimal and Halloween.

Opening with a unique and instantly recognisable vocal and sound, Novo Amor begins: “Could you let me know? / I could make some time if you wanted”, before climbing to the realisation “I reckon I may’ve been wrong”, and lulling again before continuing to build with the introduction of percussion. The swelling nature of Novo Amor’s music is perhaps the most gripping aspect, stirring emotion in listeners with unconventional song structures and intense instrumentation. Take a listen to Decimal

The second track released today is Halloween, a guitar led, punchier tune with a Phoebe Bridgers-esque chorus: “I remember Halloween / I hit my head on the edge of the sink / Dialling out to an older me / I miss my friends that I pretend I don’t need / But dammit I needed you this week”.

A constant staple on the n-eight playlists, we never grow tired of the magic produced by Novo Amor. Here’s hoping there’s more to come soon!
