Bandcamp is once again waiving its sales fee for the day, prompting some amazing releases today. Among the many artists using the platform to raise money for a good cause is one of my guilty pleasures, Father John Misty, who has released a covers EP raising money for CARE Action & Ground Game LA.

Featuring songs from Leonard Cohen, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, and Link Wray, it’s a beautiful collection of classics revived by Father John Misty’s own style. Anthem (Leonard Cohen) was recorded by Misty over lockdown with longtime collaborator and producer Jonathan Wilson in California. The additional three covers were recorded over the past few years. One of us Cannot Be Wrong (Leonard Cohen) features a 25 piece band including drummer James Gadson and has been remixed for this release.  This is the first time these recordings of Trouble and Fallin’ Rain have been officially released.

Boygenius – Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus – have made three demos from their 2018 EP available digitally exclusively through Bandcamp.

The Boygenius demos will remain online for one day only, coinciding with the site’s 24-hour waiver of its revenue share. Proceeds will be split between three charities, each member having selected an organization local to them: Baker’s donations will go to the LGBTQ organization OUTMemphis; Bridgers’ to Downtown Women’s Center for homeless women in Los Angeles; Dacus’ to Mutual Aid Disaster Relief Richmond for Covid-19 and community relief in the Virginia city.

Get buying some musical gems, and support some amazing causes while you’re at it.
