Producer and multi-instrumentalist Adam Garrett has released his latest single Don’t Keep Up via new Indie label andfriends. After a few years of working with other Irish artists (Nealo/Eve Belle), the Dublin-based musician is striding into a new musical journey of his own with Don’t Keep Up, a song which acts as a conversation with himself in an attempt to evaluate, acknowledge and understand the deeper self.
The heaviness of the personal subject matter is counterbalanced by the layered soundscape, with the artist introducing an upbeat tempo, smooth harmonies and instrumentation that lends the tune an array of sounds, from disco to pop, and from funk to jazz.
Commenting on Don’t Keep Up, Garrett has said: “The song was the first one I started writing for this project. It has gone through a lot of changes compared to its original form – and actually helped shape the tracks that came after – so I thought it had to be the one I whack out first. Fiachra Kinder put down drums early in the recording stages which helped shape and solidify the groove – it’s much tighter now I think. Lyrically, the EP mainly focuses on one particular night I had ages ago – grabbing snippets of strange chats or moments.”
